Boredom produces stress and naughty
behavior in both humans and felines. Yes, cats do get bored, and
even depressed, if you don't make sure they have an enticing
environment and regular play sessions.

Keep your felines happy by providing stimulating physical and mental activities.

CATS
AND THE DECLAWING ISSUE
Cats
walk toes first,
on their claws. Declawing
is actually an amputation of the last joint of your cat's toes.
This
amputation removes the claw and the attached bone from which it originated. Imagine
someone chopping off the last digits of all your fingers because they didn't
like one of your behaviors.
If a declawed cat
ever manages to escape to the great outdoors it has no defenses against dogs,
other cats and wild creatures such as raccoons.
American Vets strongly disagree
about the procedure with a variety of opinions ranging from: it’s just an
uncomfortable procedure to the belief that it is a traumatizing cruel treatment
justified for human convenience. My personal opinion, which I’m sure is quite
obvious, is on the side of the cats. No declawing please!
Declawing
Cats is actually illegal in:
France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Australia, Brazil, England, Wales, Scotland,
Northern Ireland and recently Los Angles.

How
to save your furniture, drapes, etc…
Scratching
is a natural behavior necessary to remove your cat's old claw coverings.
A cat's #1
choice for scratching material is sisal rope (or tree bark). Given the choice
they'll take it over your furniture. It
comes in hanging kitty toys, on ramps, and covering the bases of climbing towers
and perches.
Rub the post, tower
etc. with catnip and place in a strategic position near the
old no-no scratching choice.
Or better yet have the house “kitty ready”
before they ever arrive. Within a week you'll both be happy as the cats ignore the
furniture. My babies have at least one or two scratching devices in EVERY room!
These handy pieces of sisal hang off of doorknobs, recline in corners and make
up the base of sleeping perches. They come in a variety of styles and colors so
there is an appropriate choice for every décor. My black leather sofa and
lacquer antique Chinese benches are in perfect condition with nary a
scratch!
